If you're arriving from another province or another country and don't have a credit history in Quebec or even in Canada, you may be asked to provide certain proof, such as:
- A piece of identification: a passport, work permit, study permit, permanent residency, or other document confirming your status in Canada, depending on your situation.
- Proof of the right to reside in Canada: a work permit, study permit, or confirmation of permanent residency. The applicable work permit, study permit, or visa must be valid for the entire duration of the lease. Otherwise, documents demonstrating the renewal or continuation of your status will be required.
- Proof of employment or income: an employment contract, offer letter, pay stubs, bank statements, or other document demonstrating the ability to pay rent.
If you don't have a credit history in Quebec, you may also be asked to provide a guarantor residing in Quebec to help complete the review of your application. The guarantor will need to provide the same documents required of the applicant as part of the rental application. Their file will also be reviewed and must be approved before the lease is signed.
