Demolition: a slow, steady process<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Michel C\u00f4t\u00e9, Senior Project Director and the ESTWEST project\u2019s Site Manager, confirms that the demolition work that officially began on June 5, is still underway. \u201cDemolition doesn\u2019t happen overnight,\u201d explains Michel. \u201cIn fact, it\u2019s a slow, steady process that consists in decontaminating the site, which includes the safe removal of asbestos and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), then conducting the actual demolition using hydraulic cutters. This is a major undertaking, since we\u2019re demolishing an institutional heritage infrastructure. We\u2019re right on schedule and everything\u2019s going as\u00a0planned!\u201d<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What\u2019s next?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Four of the five buildings have been completely demolished. The team is currently decontaminating the last building, as planned, and will be tearing it down next month. The demolition process will have been completed a year after it began, right on schedule. \u201cOur team is also currently getting ready to excavate the site of the ESTWEST project\u2019s towers,\u201d added the Site Manager. \u201cThis June, we\u2019ll start excavating the EST tower\u2019s site.\u201d This entire process will take about four months to complete. The team will then build the foundations and underground parking lots, then erect the towers\u2019 infrastructure.<\/p>\n

The first residents will be able to move into their units in the summer of 2020. Until then, we\u2019ll keep you updated on the ESTWEST project\u2019s progress!
